M3 Design is an integrated product development firm located in Austin, Texas. M3's recent collaboration with Advanced Micro Devices has yielded the Personal Internet Connection (PIC) as part of AMD's "50 x 15 Initiative" designed to provide affordable Internet access and computing capabilities to 50% of the world's population by the year 2015. M3 had to sway from the industry standard in order to design for a specific market, ultimately housing PIC in a durable two-piece, snap-together shell on top of an aluminum base with no need for special assembly tools. Local manufacturers are able to easily assemble the units as the parts are minimal and only six screws are used to put each PIC together. PIC currently delivers affordable Internet connectivity to global consumers in the British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Panama, Brazil, India, Turkey and Russia. The device was deemed extremely helpful in providing online communication services for Hurricane Katrina evacuees.
