Adriean Koleric of ITEM in Edmonton took his passion for urban toy culture and applied it to his own realm of work, which involves furniture and product design. Akin to edgy knick-knacks, Koleric aimed to create a bright, playful product that retained a sophisticated personality. His mind birthed a simple creation called Monster, a playful freestanding lamp suitable for kids' rooms as well as space-age hipster pads. Monster appears to be an upright rectangular prism that has come to life, spewing light from its mouth and brain cavity. In a completely dark room, Monster may appear to be more ominous, and may even attract a few mosquitoes. The lamp is made of lacquered mdf and plexiglass and stands 42" tall. A "raw" version is available in unfinished spruce plywood. Monster is currently available for sale priced at CAN$600.
