Ball-Nogues Design -- Frank Gehry Gala for Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany & Company commissioned Los Angeles multidisciplinary design firm Ball-Nogues to design and style the environment for Frank Gehry's gala held to celebrate the launch of his new jewelry collection. The event, a landscape of curved corrugated cardboard, was held at a private location on Rodeo Drive in Beverly hills. Ball-Nogues specifically developed a new manufacturing process that facilitated efficient production of the Gehry-esque cardboard structures including walls, furniture and bars.
Over 25,000 strips of cardboard were laminated to create an environment that harked back to Gehry's legendary "Easy Edges" furniture line from the 1970's. A half-block long curved wall structure with "peep show" display windows showcased tightly framed views of live nude models (since clothing is extremely distracting, unlike hot naked chix) wearing only Gehry's jewelry designs. 24 unique abstracted ottomans were distributed across the event space, inviting the 600 guests to explore alternative ways of sitting. Ball-Nogues will further explore creative uses of corrugated cardboard in an installation at the Rice University Art Gallery in Houston from September 21 through October 29, 2006.
