Workshop APD -- GREEN.O.LA

The Sustainable Design Competition for New Orleans sought affordable green housing solutions for sustainable cities, propelled by Global Green USA and Brad Pitt's (yes, that one) passion for intelligent architecture. New York and Nantucket-based architecture, planning, and design firm Workshop APD nabbed first place with their GREEN.O.LA design (permaculture and the rebuilding of life and verdancy in Holy Cross), which will soon be realized in New Orleans' Holy Cross neighborhood. The design includes a 12-unit multi-family housing building, six single-family homes and a community center featuring a green screen wall, sod roof, and solar-heated water distribution. The complex provides an effective green solution to a city in dire need by lowering energy costs and improving residents' health while also presenting a fresh aesthetic; a forward-thinking revitalization that will prospectively raise the spirits of the rebuilding community.
