| Kasper Nedergaard Sorensen and Kaspar Matthison-Hansen -- iUVO Kasper Nedergaard Sorensen and Kaspar Matthison-Hansen, both designers based in Copenhagen, Denmark, have been awarded a 2006 Red Dot Award for the iUVO mobile infusion system. iUVO targets children in hospitals who require continuously administered fluid treatments such as medicines or saline solutions to the blood stream. Existing infusion systems are cumbersome for children—awkward in size and usability, while also sterile and unfriendly in design. iUVO is compact, colorful, and comfortable, and can be used by children as young as 3. It is easily carried on the back so the young patients may move about more freely and play, providing relief from the constant reminder of their ailment. The extended sense of freedom enabled by the integrated system can dramatically improve quality of everyday life and may even speed up the healing process. iUVO is presently a concept waiting to be brought to fruition. Sorensen and Matthison-Hansen are currently seeking a means to push iUVO into production, and ultimately, to implement this specialized equipment into children's treatment facilities and hospitals.
