Herbst LaZar Bell, a product design consultancy with offices in Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles, has recently teamed up with Dell to launch a series of all-in-one printers for home and office environments. Dell's new AIO photo printer line, including the 520, 924, 944 and 964, was designed with the user's experience in mind, implementing simplicity and ease of use as key factors from the moment the customer opens the box to the first time a new print cartridge is ordered.

The improved interface includes reduced button sets, simplified menus, and non-intimidating control panels. The printers also utilize an updated color palette of white, silver and gray to indicate different functions and operational areas, relieving customers of interface guesswork the beige electronics syndrome. The 964 printer was recently honored with a 2006 Good Design Award.
