Assaf Israel, a London-based product designer, has just introduced a new product that will change the way people interact in public spaces. Most public seating options are cramped, uninviting, and offer pedestrians limited ways of interacting. What Israel wanted to accomplish was a seating system that would bring different people together in a more inviting way, and from this he created the D&A system. These modular units can be configured into formal or informal seating arrangements. Its four components, offered in a polyethylene or upholstered finish, create interesting landscapes of crevices and slopes where people can relax, retreat and meet. This unique landscape can be adjusted to suit its environment, and this freedom of choice in how to sit makes it easier and more comfortable for users to start up a conversation, or simply sit and watch the world go by. The D&A design won Israel a Saphire prize from the Bezalel Academy, and "Project of the Year" from Israeli Architecture magazine.
