Whipsaw -- Adiri Natural Nurser
For new and experienced parents, the choice between breast feeding and bottle feeding can produce a laundry list of pros and cons. Many question whether a child experiences the same emotional and tactile connection when bottle feeding as they do with breast feeding, while others worry about toxic chemicals from plastic bottles leaching into the baby's formula.
San Jose-based design firm Whipsaw has just created the Adiri Natural Nurser baby bottle, an alternative option for parents looking for a more natural feeding experience for their babies--its designed to simulate the look and feel of a real breast. This new design will help preserve the bond between parent and child by not allowing the bottle to get in the way, and reducing feeding confusion for babies who are both breast and bottled fed. The Natural Nurser is made from a double shot C-Flex elastomer molded over a colored polypropylene core, so the body and nipple are soft and flush enough for a baby, but grippy and comfortable enough for the parents to hold. This polypropylene/elastomer construction and unique nipple cap design allows the infant to benefit from the same tactile experiences that come with breast feeding. For example, the nipple cap feels warm and flush on a baby's face when filled with milk, simulating the warmth of a mother's breast. The cap also contains a patented airflow vent to prevent bubbles and air ingestion, the leading cause of colic in babies, and its breast-like shaped cap promotes more open-mouth latched feeding, making interchanging between breast and bottle feeding easier and less confusing. To eliminate losing parts or hassling with assembly, the cap and bottle body have been co-molded together. The Adiri nursers come in three different flows (Slow, Medium and Fast), allowing for the bottle to adapt as the nursing process progresses. And most of all, the nurser's polypropylene composition will assure parents that no toxins are leaching into their baby's formula.
