Metaform Product Development -- BACTRACK Breathalyzer

David Shaw, Industrial Designer and founder of San Francisco-based Metaform Product Development, has created a unique alcohol breath analyzer called BACTRACK.

Unlike most breathalyzers that are cumbersome and require multiple accessories, BACTRACK is just under 1.5 oz and eliminates the hassle of dealing with protruding tubes and unwieldy mouthpieces that need replacing or washing. The equipment's compact size and technology bridge the gap between professional level testing and consumer usability. The size of a small mobile phone, the device sits comfortably in the user's hand, and can be easily stowed away in a pocket or bag. The design incorporates a number of features that maximize application and accuracy. Take for example the dual flow tubes and BlueFire sensor technology. By steadying the airflow in, BACTRACK' s dual flow tubes allow users to submit a breath sample simply by blowing open-mouthed into the system from up to 1/2 inches away--providing a repeatable and consistent deep lung air sample with no physical contact. The technology also provides self-purging of residual air as soon as a new sample is submitted. If that wasn't enough, the system is also equipped with a recessed, high-contrast LCD display for easy to read instructions and test results. Now users can test themselves and friends no matter where they are. Available at Target for just under $80, the BACTRACk comes in polished white or black with silver bezel.
