This participatory workshop is intended to discuss the function of cultural institutions and discuss various ways in which these institutions can further support their communities.
In the first part of this workshop, we will examine the needs of the community in relation to what the museum has to offer. In the second half, we will examine different ways in which cultural institutions, like the Brooklyn Museum, have supported their communities. You are also invited to bring your ideas and think critically about the possibilities of creating a museum for the people.
For this workshop we have invited long time Brooklyn resident Aurora P. Robinson of Black Lives Matter Pratt/HEOP faculty and Pratt Alumni MA Arch. to guide this workshop with her first-hand experience living in Brooklyn and working in a historic cultural/educational institution.
