Opening as part of the Brussels Gallery Weekend, the exhibition "Wird" is the second part of an unfolding trilogy, which is the culmination of three years of work by Haseeb Ahmed. It follows the public viewing of his "Wind Egg" experiment on May 4th, 2016 at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics, a NATO Facility just outside of Brussels. The third installment of this trilogy will be held at MUHKA, Antwerp in 2018, in collaboration with Senior Curator Nav Haq.
In the "Wind Egg" experiment, Ahmed conjured the face of the wind to test the ancient Greek theory that animals could be fertilized in the same way that plants reproduce. After using the wind and a vulture to prove that this is possible, the experiment turned towards the Astrobiological implications of this coupling.
Five months later, Harlan Levey Projects welcomes this inter-natural pair to the gallery, which is air-conditioned by an acoustic vortex. Visitors can see the face of the wind in a specially designed wind tunnel, along with a series of drawings, sculptures and a film. These are artworks that rejuvenate the past and tell tales of possible futures through a process of trans-disciplinary research and production.
The exhibition will be complimented by a series of events including a film screening with Q & A, a symposium, and the release of a publication (dates to be announced shortly).
