MUJI's Hollywood location will house 12 rarely-seen original, archival posters by Ikko Tanaka and Kenya Hara.
Ikko Tanaka, born in 1930, is known for his style of graphic design that modernism with Japanese tradition. He is one of the most prolific graphic designers in the past 50 years. His 'Ikko style' a blend of tradition and modernism is synonymous with visual communication in Japan. His trademarks, logos, magazine covers, and theater posters have been exhibited internationally.
Tanaka, one of the original founders of MUJI, is known for articulating its vision and appearance until his death in 2002. As MUJI's art director he illustrated their principle concept of 'No Brand Quality Goods' by simply communicating the object's true value in a market that was dominated by logo mania and brand worship.
Kenya Hara, who took over as art director and is an Advisory Board Member for MUJI, continues to visually communicate this MUJI's philosophy of simplicity and comfort.
