Runes: Event-based reminders using low-cost transponders

The traditional mechanism that we use to remember things is to “put knowledge into the world”* through notes or by arranging our environment. Unfortunately, electronic organizers only care about dates and times, not places or events. With “Runes” your organizer can set a “proximity reminder” for the next time you get in your car or step outside your house. Since you’ve left a Rune in your car, it reminds you at the opportune moment to pick up the dry-cleaning on the way home. Runes are simple and inexpensive, using Bluetooth or RFID transponders.

“Runes” are ancient Germanic characters, often used to encode secret messages or employed in casting spells and are often found inscribed on stones or charms. The symbol for “Bluetooth” is adopted from runic characters and it takes its name from a Viking renown for his ability to help people communicate.
