i study design at the siddharth - <supersidhu < a t > hotmail.com> - india Everywhere! Every time I see someone struggling with some object, I get a chance to re-evaluate and hopefully, improve it. But, only as a mental exercise, since I have enough stuff on my plate. :)ensen M. Jensen Didulo - <kat_n_jenNOCANNEDHAM < a t > bc.sympatico.ca> - Vancouver, BC Come to India, see the rich haritage of craft and design. Visit to hills.... Practice sustainability. With lots of love and regards Praveen Nahar - <pnahar < a t > earthling.net> - New Delhi INDIA Inspiration for me comes from nothingness. Four empty walls. A concrete dirty floor. A damp humid air. These are the ingredients that fuel my creativity... to build... to design... to think... a sort of ... or the lack of... nice things. The lack of fine design fuels my design. www.deepinteractive.com Bart Brejcha - <bart < a t > deepinteractive.com> - Empty Contcrete room architectura-furniture store in detroit luminaire-furniture store in chicago damian - <dnygaard < a t > earthlink.net> - detroit All you 'design buffs' ought to go to Amsterdam. Experimental design in furniture, clothing, sex toys..... you name it. But also many places to see the latest 'avant garde museum design' or the more ordinary stuff in furniture and ID. Great deal of second hand shops where you'll find the classics. It'll be fun Ronald Lewerissa - <Flex < a t > euronet.nl> - The Netherlands This place is not as stiffling as it may sound, it actually has a modern design. Its a recently built 6 story building with large glass windows which overlook an inner atrium and the campus. Anyone can walk in, and on sunny afternoons, the sunlight cascades through the second floor magazine section (you don't have to be a student to stay just act like one:) mako - <mmiyasat < a t > eng.uci.edu> - University of California, Irvine SCIENCE LIBRARY uhnn core i love ya ,i mean it, from the bottom of my heart, baby i believe that this the place elvis - <n/a> - memphis It's Milan! Every where you look there's a showroom with BEAUTIFUL design objects. If you go there you understand why italians are such good designers. They're always surrouded by beautiful things. Caroline Lefebvre - <fchouin < a t > cam.org> - Montréal As a design student my favorite places to absorb inspiration are within my design studio classes at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Apart from that though - you can't beat good old nature and her amazing designs. Jennifer Lee - <c.lee < a t > mailbox.uq.edu.au> - Brisbane, Australia It's by far one of the richest areas of design from crystal tean candle holders to furniture. All of it is done in the high standards of Scandinavian design and pride. I'd definitely recommend the B&O stereo shop as well as Illums, both of which are on the main walking street (Stroget). David Wang - <david < a t > umich.edu> - Copenhagan, Denmark The Science & Industry library is great. The only public place that I know of where you can experience an Aeron chair! (All hale Herman Miller, Bill Stumpf & Don Chadwick!) Check out Herman Miller site to learn more about the most comfortable chair invented. Anyway, as an (obviously) glassy-eyed neophite/student, my favorite design places are books about design/art history. As for physical places: I'm inspired by anywhere where there is outstanding design (either good or bad) in a tall city or the mountains. Michelle - <anamishi < a t > mindspring.com> - NYC BARCELONA.........Javier Mariscals work zone...best designs ive seen in years....kind of wacky but not as refined (serious) as the italians. Unbelievable design shops for ID and furniture! Lionel Curtis - <MCurtisrei < a t > aol.com> - Pennsylvania USA - ex Melbourne Australia In Nashville there is a life size replica of the Parthenon. Even though it is fake it still is awe inspiring and is a great place to go and think. armand - <armandn8 < a t > gnn.com> - tennesse New York has many famous sites, museums, etc. A new favorite is the Science and Industry Library at 34th street in Manhattan. The brand new facility is beautifully done with areas to work, internet access, as well as a full scale library. If you get a chance its well worth a visit John K - New York City |
