LIQUE

>>what is it?
Audio Visual Diary/Electronic Jewellery
>>what makes this design different or better? (e.g. materials, research)
The research comprised in looking at emerging trends in the deign field of designing experiences. Utilizing technology as a backbone in a user and culture centred product. Acknowledging the desire of modern consumers to be unique at the same time as being identified with the product and a new sense of belonging in cybersociety, a brand and theme rather than national belonging. It is therefor a need for products with a stronger identity and presence. The famous dragonfly designed by Lalique 100 years ago was an influential inspiration. The dragonfly reflects today's fast moving society and the projector where it sits to download the harvested moments of time draws on the idea of rest and the growing importance of the home.
Each image capturer has an enamelled with a unique pattern to heighten the personal value. The capturer utilizes new and emerging digital storage capabilities (Ericcson research centre Lund Sweden 10x10mm 64-Megabyte chip). There is no view finder but two fold out wings where one contains a transparent display. This lends the opportunity to use it with both eyes open, and is less obtrusive in a social situation. The single output is through the projector which has greater impact than paper prints. It is made of porcelain which acknowledges it as containing something precious and being an ornament in the home when not in use. It contains an upgradeable motherboard with solid memory card slots. After downloading a day's collections the user can then navigate through their audio visual memories/diary. The Navigator is also the lens cover when not in use. All the components come together and can be placed in a leather carry bag (hippie style).
>>what hardware and software were used to design it?
Photoshop & Vellum
>>how is it intended to be manufactured or produced?
The Image Capturer has : an aluminium cast housing which is hand finished. The front is given a coat of adhesive and enamel powder is printed on before it is heated for glazing.
The Projector is made of porcelain which is burned at a temperature higher than usual which makes it almost unbreakable.
The whole manufacturing process means a higher production cost, which can be justified by the product being a lifelong personal product more than a product of mass consumption.
