>>what is it?:
A double sided scanner designed to eliminate binding damage common in flat bed scanners.

>>what makes this design different or better?
Using Charge Coupled-Device technology, this scanner is able to capture illustrations and information effectively from rare and fragile books without spreading and damaging the books' binding. A sliding track carries the CCD sensors and mirror down a thin (approx..75cm) two sided scanning surface. The Sensors can scan deep into the books inner margin without opening the book all the way. It is intended to be portable and linked to a laptop computer so that the user can edit and download the information directly.

>>what hardware and software were used to design it?:
Form-Z; Adobe PhotoShop; Medium Density Foam.

>>how is it intended to be manufactured or produced?:
The body of the hand-held device will be of injection molded polycarbonate. The glass scanning surfaces are held apart by a polycarbonate and metal frame.
