What is it?
My work is an interactive cube where each wall addresses current global problems. It acts as a communicating or mediating tool that aids in dealing with issues like the 'anaesthetics of our visual culture (Neil Leach) and places them into a spatial context. Consequently creating an understanding of the issues that goes beyond the visual to the physical as one journey along the ramp.

What makes this design different or better?
The design is a new way of communicating, a new way of understanding. Each wall of the cube becomes a spatial elaboration on an issue such as self-obsession, and hence as one moves along the ramp to the roof you slowly pass through and by the wall physically experiencing what it means to be self-obsessed, the pleasures and perils.

Our numbness has fashioned a lazy tolerance and an inability to understand important cultural and social issues. Through the computer that once linked and connected us, 'the truth' has been distorted like a slimming mirror, to a truth that we are able to deal with, or one to ugly to comprehend. So the materialisation of each wall becomes imperative to further understand the issues that are perceived, for it creates the physical reality (truth) of these issues. Consequently each material is used in reference to its original state which provides it with an honest purity. For example timber is used in strong vertical sections like a pine forest, stone walls are undulating and rough like that of a cliff face, and metal is shaped to a rock like state.

Each wall of the cube aims to stimulate every sense, not solely the visual. To present information with meaning and reason. To gain awareness through deprivation. To create a universal cultural line or wall which presents a position on these global problems. Hence in a society where technology has eroded so many barriers, where we need some definition, a recognisable limit. So the cube will act to create this barrier or edge to these issues where there is seemingly no edge to bound, through a greater understanding and awareness?
