A small unobtrusive device which records and displays the usage of any object. This information provides a glimpse into the history of that object, reinforcing the bond between user and object while offering a comment on product life span and durability.

By documenting and displaying the actual usage of any particular item the Odometer Button raises the user's awareness of their choices in purchasing and disposing of objects. By becoming more aware of their own habits and behaviors, future consumers will question whether they need to replace one item with a newer version, or whether they really need that item at all.

Gavin Ivester: "Product fashion versus timelessness and value: wouldn't it be cool if a well-used product was a badge of sophistication? I would love this even more if it could calculate the pennies per usage-the longer you have the product the cheaper it gets and the richer you are."
