Parlak

On the surface, PARLAK is just a a coffee table. Set a glass on top and with a shimmer of color, motion and light, its tiles pulse with embedded behaviors. And the more items atop the surface, the more animated and unexpected the display. All tiles are removable and interchangeable, making a protean, modular design.

PARLAK opens up a discussion on psychological need within two different communities: the consumer marketplace and the design industry. What follows is an honest appraisal of the motives that drive both the consumer and the designer, and how design that straddles the line between technical and utilitarian must thoughtfully consider those needs.
