Spring Light
John van den Nieuwenhuizen, Jon Godston, Marc Walliser - United States

Spring light, a self-powered lamp. This unique, elegant suspended light powers itself! Just pull down the cord / handle at the base of the lamp, and a clock-spring winds up inside the light fixture.

As the spring unwinds, the stored mechanical energy is used to spin the centrally-mounted generator, which then creates electrical energy to power the LEDs around the perimeter of the light.

Utilizing a high-efficiency geared-generator and ultra-bright white LEDs, thirty minutes of light can be provided for a family dinner by just pulling a one-meter length of cord.

Because this light doesn't require household wiring setup, and has a long life, it can be an excellent "eco"-addition to your home -- or cottage in the woods.

And since lighting accounts for 5-10% of electricity used in U.S. homes, this light can reduce your overall carbon footprint. Recycled plastic is used for the translucent dome, recycled aluminum for the outer ring & generator cover, as well as reclaimed steel cable for the overhead mount.
