This last decade technology has undergone a transformation of extensive data/content access through diversified web experiences that are embodied in "all -in-one" gadgets. Complexity and multitasking go hand in hand. We have almost disregarded simple human needs such as knowing what time it is. All for the constant replaceable "modern" gadgets that allow one to call our loved ones, navigate the web, watch videos, and store music. Complex accessibility and complex objects are the norm. We forget the environmental impact that these objects cause for upgrades of "the latest". Sustainability is slapped on as another feature rather than crafted in the experience. The truth is that our perception of technology must be challenged in order to realize the true relationship between object-user-nature.

Ultimately we know that technology and its gadgets are rarely viewed as crafted emotional objects that users value. Complex data and its objects must be simplified by merging nature and technology into a holistic user product experience. Only then can we emotionally engage the consumer to accept responsibility.

Arc is a representation of what can be done when two ends meet to create a valued experience. The clash and balance between tech and nature, man crafted objects and natural materials that bring us to modern craft. Arc is a reminder of not adding complexity to our everyday needs, such as knowing the time by going back to the basic things we value.

Simplicity: holistically easy on the eye, ergonomics, interaction and manufacturing. Thoughtfully crafted: with local american ash wood, laser etched vegetable treated leather, and reduced to only using essential materials.

The essence of surprise: the bent wood hides the display that appears through the thin wall when accessed, giving the user that secondary sense of wonder by using clever abundant technology.

And its sustainable: the message does not hit you overtly in the face, its rather treated as an element that is part of the object. The inner band through its laser etch leather tells a story of balance. It is manufactured with abundant locally sourced materials. The small batch production will have low tooling costs making the object easy to assemble and disassemble all parts. Ultimately, the iconic experience is a reminder of the coexistence between technology and nature through modern craft.
