Kami* concept
* - means paper in Japanese
Kami is about the opportunity we all have already, an opportunity to redefine the reading experience, make education, information and reading more accessible and mobile and finally save incomparable amount of trees, money, and space. With e-ink technology we greatly reduce:
- Paper (trees) usage
- Delivering costs
- Storage space costs
- Delivering time to anywhere on the planet to few seconds.
-Co2 emissions as consequence
Kami concept in three parts:
1 Service is a web portal, compatible with any internet enabled device with an internet browser. You purchase a book, and have your copy in a moment. No software installation, actually there is no pc needed, no more waiting for weeks (in case of international delivery), no more delivering costs. Kami portal is also a place with a user driven content. You can publish your book/work/essay in universal format, and what makes it different - in a universal book shop, not somewhere where the reader you wrote it for, would never find it.
2 Middle man is what used to be a real book shop, they will be transitioned to wi-fi access points with big screens for easer and more comfortable access, you choose a book, read a review may be, purchase it and boom - it is on your device. You can also make it anywhere directly from your device when wi-fi internet access is available.
3.1 The main part is Kami OS, light, hardware friendly, updatable, with built in web browser and gestures support out of the box, supporting color and grayscale touch screen e-paper displays - these are the things you get as "Standard" being a manufacturer, what you will put Kami OS in, is up to you, design a device perfect for your market, use Kami OS and get universal standards by default.
3.2
Kami Q1. (just one device of a vast variety possible):
Slim, light, metal case.
Two buttons (turn on\off, switch between modes (reading, note writing, menu etc).
With gesture recognition and automatic picture turning Q1 is an a universal device whatever you are a right or left-handed person, with no need to create different models for Asian and European markets. You can flip pages with just one move of a finger, simply write pages numbers on the screen surface, create tabs, write notes, and finally – browse the internet! Q1 uses grayscale e-ink display, yet Kami OS supports color displays as well, so you can expect same kind of devices for magazines reading with color photos and even videos.
PS. It is all about reading. Try to recollect a text-book in school/university, remember it? Heavy, probably full of unquotable words and picture drawn by your higher grade classmate (this happens mostly in schools), imagine what happens when you republish an updated version of…, lets say, history text-book, how much money is this? How much paper? Compare it to updating an article in wikipedia. Think...
