The School of Industrial Design of the University of Montreal offers four very competitive programs. The original approach put forward by the School aims at getting the social and human sciences "down in the studio" to inform the design projects. Conversely, this approach also considers the act of design as a legitimate way to produce knowledge on contemporary problems. The worthiness of this mutual enrichment between human knowledge and design practice is proven each year by the quality and the diversity of the design and research projects that our students produce. This approach is largely developed in our graduate programs which theoretical base combines pragmatism, constructivism, systemic and complexity to support the production of an academic knowledge on, for, and moreover by design.
