Monash is Australia's most internationalised university. It has eight campuses including one in Malaysia and one in South Africa, and centres in London, UK and Prato, Italy. An energetic and dynamic university, Monash is committed to quality education and research. The current course program is a result of a major refocussing to reflect an increased need for cross-disciplinary education in art and design. As a result, students are able to choose from a wide selection of courses and electives, and undertake double degree courses in some areas. Most courses are structured around the student taking one or more of the studio programs, so that they can master a major studio practice. Unlike the more traditional lecture mode, studio teaching involves the active participation of students - the process of 'creating and making' and problem solving is integral to the learning process. Students learn to put their knowledge and ideas into practice under the experienced guidance of lecturers and studio coordinators. This enables them to understand the processes of conceptualising an idea, modelling or prototyping it, and bringing the design to implementation.
