Flex -- Smart tailed apron
Flex, a design consultancy based in Delft, recently worked with the Koninklijke Van Kempen en Begeer company to develop a series of products for the new label Royal VKB. The products are household goods used when preparing, serving and storing food.
FLEX has designed nine textile products for the series: an apron, oven mitten, place-mats, napkins, a towel, tea-towel, mats, a tablecloth and a bib. Ed Annink, designer from Ontwerpwerk, is responsible for the product patterns. The main theme of the illustrations is 'men hunting', the archetype of 'coming to a meal'.
All designs include innovative elements: the apron, for instance, has two "tails" which at the end form two isolated pockets that can serve as oven mittens.
