Francisco Gomez Paz is a furniture designer based in Milan and is involved with research and instruction at the Domus Academy. Paz's Ovidio table, designed for Danese, an Italian furniture company, is a self-supporting geometric structure made entirely of complex folded sheet metal. The table appears to defy basic laws of structure with its upward tapered legs supporting an ultra thin surface area the very outer corners. The calculated configuration of the specific angular folds makes this light, elegant aesthetic possible while keeping the piece structurally sound, remarkably rigid and completely functional. Ovidio is available as a coffee table or dining table in high gloss black or silver painted metal.
