Buckminster Fuller Challenge 2009
Winning the Buckminster Fuller Challenge will require more than a great stand-alone innovation. If for example, your solution emphasizes a new design, material, process, service, tool, technology, or any combination, it is essential that it be part of an integrated strategy dealing with key social, economic, environmental, policy and cultural issues. The winning solution should exemplify the trimtab principle. Trimtabs are small steering devices used on ships and airplanes which demonstrate how relatively small amounts of leverage, energy, and resources strategically applied at the right time and place can produce maximum advantageous change.

DNA +: Water and Wind
DNA+ is looking for new and innovative functional designs. Each submitter is to invent new ways of relating to life in the bath environment. Entries are invited for the following categories: Furniture, Accessory, Lighting. Products have to be designed for all, in other words have an easy access, be environmentally safe, compliant for a use in a wet environment for a residential use as well as for a commercial use. Material limitation; wood, Corian, aluminum, stainless steel, glass, acrylic glass. Technology limitation: die making, tubing, extrusion, thermoforming, CNC machining are preferred.

RenderDemo: Basketball Shoe Design Competition
Design a basketball shoe for a professional athlete. Choose an athlete from the past or present and create a signature design based on their attitude, position, or skill-set. Consider the upper and bottom designs and how to solve for problems such as traction, cushioning, lateral movements, ankle support, etc. The winner will be published in SLAM magazine.

Rome Prize 2010
The American Academy in Rome invites applications for the Rome Prize competition. One of the leading overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and the humanities, the Academy offers up to thirty fellowships for periods ranging from six months to two years. Rome Prize winners reside at the Academy's eleven-acre center in Rome and receive room and board, a study or studio, and a stipend. Stipends for six-month fellowships are $12,500 and stipends for eleven-month fellowships are $25,000. Fellowships are awarded in the following related fields: Architecture, Design (including graphic, fashion, industrial, interior, lighting, set, and sound design, engineering, urban planning, and other related design fields), Historic Preservation and Conservation (including architectural design, public policy, and the conservation of works of art), and Landscape Architecture.

eVolo 2010 Skyscraper Competition
In the last few years we have seen hundreds of new skyscrapers developed around the world without careful consideration to the context or environment. There is a constant lack of urban planning and poor architectural design without intellectual or perceptual enjoyment. The aim of the competition is to push our imagination to redefine the term skyscraper through the use of new materials, technology, aesthetics, programs, and spatial organizations. Globalization, environmental warming, flexibility, adaptability, and the digital revolution are just some of the multi-layered elements that should be taken in consideration. There are no restrictions in regards to site, program or size. The objective is to provide maximum freedom to propose the most innovative projects for this fascinating architectural genre. Ultimately, the designs should help the environment, restructure our cities and improve our way of life.

Copenhagen Bike Share Competition
The City of Copenhagen has 1st of September 2009 announced an international design competition for a new bike-sharing concept for the city. The design competition is the first step towards Copenhagen implementing a new 'Bycykel/City Bike' in a couple of years. Deadline for receipt of competition entries, November 18. Assessment of competition entries. medio December, 2009. A total prize sum of up to 750,000 DKK [ca 100,000 euro]. First Prize 250,000 DKK [ca 33,000 euro]. L'argus European Design Competition for Students: Less is More: Travelling in the Era of Simplicity
The French magazine L'argus de l'automobile has launched its 8th European Design Competition. Questioning students on mobility and on the future of automobile design, L'argus Contest invites them to take up the challenge of "always less". From 1st June to 11 December 2009, they will cope with the topic "Less is more: travelling in the era of simplicity."

YouRail Train Interior Design Competition: Visions of modern transportation
Bombardier Transportation welcomes you to submit designs that help create a unique new interior of a future train. We are looking for designs that satisfy the special needs of different types of passengers (e.g. leisure or business). Simply post your individual train interior design on the online platform to discuss and evaluate it together with other participants. While you are there, you can get insights to other proposals as well as have a go at developing your custom-made train seat using an online configurator. Prizes in excess of 10,000 Euros will be awarded, and the winning design will be presented at the "InnoTrans 2010" fair in Berlin, Germany in September 2010.

ICFF announces a call for entries from design schools for consideration for spots at the ICFF. Entries must hold a description of a topic, a singular concept with original products and prototypes, designed by students to be exhibited at the ICFF. Mealing by Marti Guixe

For designer Martí Guixé, the word "mealing" describes the act of eating a meal, as well as the social concept of a relational meal. Mealing is a three-hour performance and meal-in-motion for approximately 80 people. Participants will be given ceramic glasses with "edible microsnacks" adhered to their surface and instructions for eating them while performing small gestures that will require each person to interact with their fellow diners.
