Teaching Children to Code
Raspberry Pi is a low-cost, high-performance, credit card sized computer designed to promote the teaching of basic computer science in schools and developing countries enabling people to learn, solve problems and have fun. Developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a UK charity, it has reached sales of 10 million since its 2012 launch, becoming the best-selling UK computer.
We were commissioned to design the official case. Building on the ethos and values of the product and the Foundation, the design celebrates the Raspberry Pi inside. It has clip-together panels to allow users to use their imaginations and adapt the case to suit their needs.
The case has clear, accessible ports for connection to mouse, keyboard, display and peripheral devices. With a compact composition and robust enough to be used from school bag to boardroom, it fulfils the needs of users from school children to tech savvy professionals.
The sleek and playful design deliberately avoids “tech” stereotypes; this, combined with an exceptionally low price, makes it accessible to everyone.
The value of its design has been demonstrated by the success of the product; selling 1 million units in its first year, globally.
