
Aesop, Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings are still great for teaching right and wrong, but if you want to raise kids with that elusive combination of moral grounding, environmental sensitivity, and sympathy for the "bad guy," you'd be hard pressed to improve on these anime classics. If it's a plucky young girl you're bringing up, so much the better: the heroines that anchor these titles are simultaneously some of the smartest and biggest-hearted we can think of. Start with Princess Mononoke, then follow it up with Kiki's Delivery Service and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
