Eco-neighbuzz is an apartment buzzer & intercom system with additional features. Today's existing intercom systems work only between outside door and flat. However, we can improve this system to support the existing community inside the building. Even though today we are living in tall concrete blocks built in big metropolises, we are not communicating with our neighbours as we did years ago. Sometimes we even don't know who is living in the building and what they are doing.
When thinking about green design, we need to design good services which help us to consume less and share more. This means car-sharing, free-cycling (giving unused items for free), recycling, etc. We should first start doing this with our closest community - our neighbours. Even when we have good relationships with our neighbours, we are still missing a good service platform to improve upon it. Eco-neighbuzz is a great platform to build a greener community with our neighbours. Essentially, it is a voice message to neighbours. Interaction with the device happens through a touch screen and handset, using speech-to-text functionality.

Such a clever idea that I believe many people would take advantage of. Just the other day I was in need of a hammer since mine broke and I'm positive someone else in my building had one sitting around that I could borrow for a second. Another selling point is that we would begin to interact with our neighbors we might otherwise never meet. Great idea!
Simple, clever and realistic idea. I really believe that it could develop the relationship between people living in the same neighborhood.
I like this tool especially because of the community building aspect. And also it's a way to consume less. Good job, Korhan. I really don't know my neighbors in my house, and when moving into a new one soon it this kind of system would be great! How can we make it into a reality? I think it's good idea to have the hardware as well as then everybody has it not only the geeks of the house. I think my dad would like this too although he lives in a small village in their own house, but having such a

Great idea! In my complex, we occupy 3 apartments, 2 in each, and often migrate between the 3. I've always suggested some sort of alert system letting every one know what was going on.. but ultimately we realized its way easier to just knock and say hi! real life... how can I get something like this?
Dumb idea. Everyone already has cell phones and computers and TOO MUCH ELECTRONIC JUNK ALREADY (as noted in the mock-up too!). Why not just make this a software app for phones and computers we already have, instead of selling another stupid gadget.
I see an application for this when severe weather or any other event that needs immediate action. A PHENOMENAL platform to alert everyone, even if it's drinks on the patio at 5!
@ Lee I agree. I had exactly the same idea. But how about this. Great for a bulletin board in the lobby. Provide notices to the delivery carriers (DHL, Fedex, UPS, and etc) of changes for pick-up or drop-off instructions as oppose to posting a notice on the door or windows in the lobby. Eliminates the breadcrumbs so-to-speak. Then, I had this thought. Kind of like Here Comes Everybody - by Carl Shirky leading to Information overload but circulation of information still is great, it helps
#9 spot on. If there is one thing I don't want, it's the useless rambling of my neighbours in my apartement. That is why I lock the door. To keep them out. I have never met anyone with another point of view.
Great concept! Very nice!! :)
What a nice take on the bulletin board system. I like the idea of communicating with your neighbors
I think this is awesome. Yes I freecycle, but usually it is people from across town so car must be used etc which is silly. The only time I find out my closest neighbors have things I need is once a year garage sales. I live in highdensity downtown urban area, wave and smile at my neighbors, but no way to simply put out that I need help (dogwalk, borrow something) or could offer something (old tv, couch, whatever). This is brilliant.
in my opinion this is a great concept since it is an attempt to promote sharing instead of buying new products and also due to online security/hacker risks it is good that service is bundled with the hardware. i can imagine this or similar concept pre-installed in future`s smart flats.
way too many drawbacks on a green product, but still a neat communication concept
More power consumed by the power supply active 24/7/365 than the few things that neighbors will share.
I think the strength of this concept is the combination of both hardware and the software. It would be nice but we can not expect all the neighbours to use the same online service plus some of these online services might be hard for elder people but this gadget can be pre-installed in the newly constructed buildings and ready to use. And this definitely is an improvement to the current intercom systems. LETS SALUTE OUR NEIGHBOURS
This idea I enjoy, especially in areas where the townhouses have outside exits. Especially if they can connect entire blocks. This would be a nice product to have in Montréal.
I find that the goal of this gadget could easily be achieved with a chalk (or white) board in the lobby. Reusable and economical.
I see no need for a device on the wall, and with a curly cord no less. Folks all over already do this with Yahoo Groups and similar services without requiring a special piece of equipment. Many of us even pick up and send these messages remotely with
Good idea - we need to get community going to make up for the worldwide lack of money/debt crunch. It could be so useful - neighbours becoming source of support and sharing rather than strangers. But why produce/buy some new extra piece of kit when w
This is brilliant!
It brings back "good old time" to the now isolated urban life, like a time machine! Such a *GREAT* idea!
This would quickly turn into a sex thing.
Great Idea, however something like this can already be achieved through a number of online services. This could very well be achieved with something like Twitter.
This is awesome. Although putting that thing next to the intercom might mean putting it out of sight. Allowing for that thing to be put anywhere in your home might heighten your awareness of neighbours even further. I admit, though, that making this
wow, this would be great not just for apartments but also for neighbors in small towns...!
