Pulse
Daniel Sutherland - United KingdomPulse is my “light object.” Through its function it improves the potential impact that other products have on our world.
Millions of pounds are lost every year by leaving a product on standby. Pulse is designed to identify products in our homes that are not being used and should be switched off to save energy.
The impact pulse has as “another energy drain” is vastly counterbalanced by its function, to save the unnecessary drip of the energy tap. This is the lightness of this product and the maturity of its function. It is an issue that applies to all of us and through the use of a product that has a sole function of streamlining energy use; we may gradually learn to monitor our energy consumption and indeed our use of electrical products.
Pulse has been designed with a clear glass section running throughout its body to allow the product to glow different colours to signify specific conditions to users. It will glow red throughout these edges if there are products in the household that can be switched off to save energy. When the user touches the body it will identify the product in question onscreen.
This is facilitated by a wireless connection with each “plug card”
that is placed on the products throughout the living space. Before placing
the card in situation, the user scans it with the handset and then identifies
the product to the card number, allowing easy identification of cards and
their products in the future.
