Fun with RF Welded Plastics
Aquapac is a company in the UK that makes a wide range of waterproof cases for personal electronics, communications equipment and valuables. These nifty products feature a patented Aquaclip opening (an injection molded component RF welded into the product) that uses twist locks to create a hermetic seal when closed. While these products are patented, they do show some of the creative things one can do with RF welded PVC.
Dialetrics is a company in the US that has also developed many applications for RF welded PVC and polyurethane. Their technologies also combine this technology with other materials like gels and foams to create mechanisims (many often disposible) for a wide range of markets.
While these products may seem simple at first, they are actually quite sophisticated. There is a lot of innovative ideas within this technology which have yet to be explored.
