Too little, too late? Auto industry analyst Erich Merkle proclaims that American automakers are now undergoing a "design Renaissance." Yes, now, when global faith in the Big Three is at an all-time low.
Merkle raises some interesting points, like the following:
I have always proclaimed, "We are not in the transportation business." Rather the automakers are more about fashion, not any different than the business of watch or clothing makers. If Rolex were in the business of keeping time, it would never sell a single watch. Nor would Seiko for that matter, rather the consumer would always look for the lowest-cost product capable of keeping time. Five dollars would do in this case.
