Our latest one hour design challenge, The Future of Digital Reading, is quickly drawing to a close. We've got lots of insightful entries, but there are still 3 more days for you to carve out 90 minutes (yes, an hour and a half this time) to think about the future of digital reading and sketch it all up for us.
For this challenge, we've teamed up with Portigal Consulting, who have generously provided us with some of their digital reading research. They suggest that you include the sensual, support the social side of reading. consider the varied modes and rituals of reading and develop an ecosystem around your product.
Here are a few more examples to get you warmed up, then go read the guidelines, view the research and get started! The winner will get $600 donated in their name to 826 Valencia, an organization that helps kids with expository and creative writing in San Francisco.
In The PaperBack, Stephanie Aaron, Kristin Grafe and Eric St. Onge use real paper tp prototype their ideas about how a digital ebook should work, exploring folding as a means to communicate with the digital system.
In The Perfect Reading Experience, johnnyS observes that being able to browse and select a book is important too, extending his OLED paper concept to the scale of the wall.
