Swedish electronics manufacturer Aesthesis was started "as a reaction to the stereotyped and masculine consumer electronics industry," says their mission statement. "We therefore seek to bring more intriguing, avantgarde and sensual products to the market without compromising with sound or picture quality."
Their first foray into the market is their Gramophone Speaker, above, which bucks the current trend of sharp and angular. But this isn't mere styling; the shape of the housing itself greatly influences the sound, by design.
The Gramophone Speakers owe their exceptional sound to a custom developed coaxial driver and to the shape of the cabinet itself, which integrates tube and hornloading and a bass reflex enclosure. The horn amplifies the higher frequencies, the open cabinet the lower and the precise narrowing of the cabinet damps resonances/echoes very efficiently.
