Pepsi' clever Refresh Project is guerilla marketing wrapped in philanthropy. Every month they accept 1,000 ideas--"We're looking for people, businesses, and non-profits with ideas that will have a positive impact. Look around your community and think about how you want to change it," they write--and conduct public voting to decide which ideas will win cash grants. (The amounts run from US $5,000 to a sizeable $250,000.)
Our favorite idea this month is currently ranked a sad 124th in the running, but hopefully more people will vote for it before February 28th, when the voting period ends. Called "Build a website about where things come from and what they are made of," Sourcemap's concept aims to make the environmental impact of a variety of goods completely transparent, which would hopefully lead to greater corporate accountability and a more educated consumer base.
Like it? Vote for it.
Hate it? Check out the other ideas.
Got a better idea? Submit your own. (But hurry, this month's submission period ends on the 15th.)
