That's the StudyLite rechargeable desk lamp, developed in India. Presented as the "World's first 'Safe for Eyes' certified rechargeable study light for children," the UV- and IR-free lamp was designed using research by eye research institute Sankara Nethralaya. The batteries can hold enough juice for a six-hour study session, so students who live in houses without power can juice it up elsewhere, then bring it home to hit the books.
The StudyLite, which was awarded a 2010 Red Dot Design Award, has LED bulbs projected to last for 100,000 hours and it comes with a 2-year warranty. (But, warning: It has an extremely annoying website, with Casio-keyboard disco music you can't turn off and buggy navigation.)
