We've all heard of Jay Shafer's Tiny Houses, but it's one thing to see the founder espousing his design and quite another to see a non-affiliated couple actually building the thing.
Last June, an otherwise anonymous guy and girl named Evan and Gabby became taken with the idea of tiny houses. Writes Evan,
One of my passions in life is backpacking. I thrive on the opportunity that back-country travel affords one to completely simplify to the most basic essentials. I find nothing in my daily life to be as rewarding as carrying only the things you need for your basic needs and immediate comfort. This guy (Jay Shafer) might just have figured out how to do what I have not these many years: merge the two worlds of home and back-country living. Jay's Tumbleweed Tiny Houses are backpacks for your every day life!
They ordered one and began building it out, and have been documenting the entire progress on their blog. Nothing makes a thing seem more do-able than two people with no construction experience walking you through every step of the process, from putting in the gas and electric to nailing in the actual boards. Check it out here.

You two are so inspiring to the rest of us rattling around giant homes with too many accumulated possessions. Congratulations on making your dream come true as you blend the best of both worlds - having a nest whilst roaming the world. Safe and happy travels!! Where to first?
