Karim, I have traveled the world as you have. There are two areas where designers can make a difference. Number One- Using design to educate children about math and science which design is closely related to. And number two - working with engineers to deliver products that are safe and are designed to have excellent user interface. One such example is the work that is being done by companies like the Burn Design Lab which is creating safe and efficient stoves for the 3 billion people who cook with biofuels. It matters not that the stoves are Cartesian or bio-morphic- it only matters if the stoves deliver a safe and efficiently cooked meal. Good luck with your Karim shops.
I've always seen Rashid as having no real substance to his design. But I definitely love how he talks about the experiential future of design.. (which is already here.)
Redesigning the electric car.. You want to push it? How about get rid of the car altogether?!
Still with the pink suit! After all these years his designs are still as playful and late 1990's as ever. Its strange to see the era of superstar designer (maybe) coming to a close, and it will be interesting to see how he evolves his brand over the next decade.

I'm glad that he is starting his own brand; This is crucial if he wants to make his "democratic design" dream come true.
