When it comes to designs involving LEGO, we're pretty serious. From a prosthetic leg made from the infamous building blocks to hardware design, we can't pass up a chance to show off the post-childhood opportunities LEGO has to offer. This time around, the mini-figs are starring in a series of photographs spotlighting characters from Star Wars films.
The main ingredient and ultimate deal-maker? Baking powder.
Vesa Lehtimäki, a Finnish photographer who you may also know as Avanaut, has been taking ultra-detailed photos of LEGO for a while now, but there's something about these snowy scenes that hits us particularly close to home. They're photographic fan fiction from the frozen landscape of Hoth, the ice-covered planet from the opening scenes of The Empire Strikes Back, which we also happen to be experiencing firsthand thanks to the Polar Vortex. By using baking powder, Lehtimäki is able to intensify the landscape with chilling accuracy.
While some of the images are a more serious depiction of the timeless toys (the shot of C-3PO smashing R2D2 over the head is one example), a select few show off a lesser-known, playful side of the characters in a destination guide kind of way. Each photograph comes with a title and description that adds a bit of personality to the staged vignette. The end result is an intimate look at a mythical sub-world all of us closet nerds were too afraid to ask about.
