Sure, you can get hung up on megapixels, ISO, and all that jazz--but who knows when your shutter's gonna croak? Well, photographer and camera aficionado Oleg Kikin is certainly closing in on some solid numbers. His Camera Shutter Life Expectancy Database is a comprehensive collection of user-generated data revealing the number of exposures taken on a given camera and whether or not the shutter continues to operate. Feel free to add your facts and figures and keep this mother going!

Jeannie is a true jack-of-all trades, looks forward to a day gone swimmingly, and finds joy in all things awesome. Brilliant art, rocking the renegade music scene, conjuring up haute designs, other people's hot designs, tasty salad, trashy magazines and unicorns are some of the many things she is passionate about.

sadly, this database needs some serious work until it becomes usable. Thanks to the folks adding datas of 8 million exposures with Canon 300D for example, and others claiming that their shutter broke on the first shot, the averages are quite odd. 440000 shots for the 300D and 3800 for the K10D. How interesting! :)) Anyway, the idea is great!

I believe that the statistics are flawed. Reported "clicks" assume shutter failure and do not take into account that the cameras may have failed for other reasons.

    Mark Luthringer's Ridgemont Typologies

The artist's statement is quite a mouthful, so we'll leave that for the blockquote below.
