The need is well defined. Open floor plans in general and activity based workplaces in particular, needs to be supplemented with specific products to achieve a functional room acoustic environment. "With Sabine we integrate the acoustics with the other needs in the work place and the result is a system of sound reducing furniture and workstations”, says Johan Kauppi and Bertil Harström, Swedish designers who have developed Sabine in a close multidiciplinary collaboration with producer Glimakra of Sweden.

The first members to be presented of the Sabine family are a number of independent storage furniture that also can be connected to elements. These are complemented by work tables with storage units that can be repeated. Sabine has a modest design that can withstand repetition. Possibilities for variation are available in different colors and materials. The name itself is a tribute to the physicist Wallace Clement Sabine who founded the room acoustics in the late 1800s.
"Sabine is an effective storage furniture system that is sound absorbing, sound reducing and room dividing. The pressed felt shells on the outside of the furniture interacts with the slotted body in a way that creates a smooth and good sound absorption in a wide frequency range from 125 Hz to 4000 Hz. The sound absorption is actually considerable even in the very low frequencies, 63Hz" - says Klas Hagberg, Head of Acoustics at WSP Acoustics Sweden, who have been engaged as acoustics expert in the project.
Sabine storage furniture are available in four widths and four heights. The depth is always the same, 396 mm. The sound absorbing properties are obtained by optimized slots and shells of moulded polyester felt with sound absorbing foam. The felt is available in anthracite, gray, white and green. Body material can be painted MDF or dyed Valchromat in black, gray or green. Sabine has different choices of legs. Round wooden legs in solid ash, brass or powder coated metal frame and design wheels in aluminium. The height of the legs are compatible to fit each other.
Sabine work stations have fixed heights for sit or stand levels. The table top in white stained ash wood is held up by a sound absorbing beam that is connected to the side units. Work station can be repeated. Sockets for electricity, data, USB and HDMI are available on each work station. The sides can be equipped with either coat racks or shelves.
Sabine was launched and unveiled by Glimakra of Sweden at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, February 2015
