GH 1 is a form study/concept for a column heater intended for use in gallery spaces.
For my senior thesis titled Exhibition, I was interested in perception and atmosphere, and ways in which a designer can effect perceptions of value in not only their own objects, but other existing objects as well.
As part of this, I designed a space heater intended for developing gallery spaces as a means to combat basic climate control issues—that of which are crucial in the preservation of artworks. More than anything, this premise was deliberately chosen so that the project would then serve as a vehicle to raise questions on the use and perception of objects, products, and built environments analogous to our experience of artworks. The heater aims to create a dichotomy of sorts.
Once the object inhabits a gallery setting, similar to it's neighboring works, a viewer may distantly acknowledge and then approach it—recognizing that it too is emitting something.
The heater can be stored vertically to take up minimal space.
This is an advanced concept model, imagined in steel and polypropylene—actually made of machined plywood, and PLA.
