The Bunker
by Lindroth + Newick

The Bunker is the latest in an ongoing series of collaborative works conceived of by artist Linda Lindroth and architect Craig Newick. These projects have consisted of installations in galleries and museums and proposals for memorials and buildings. To date, the collaborations have earned the pair more than twenty awards, grants and prizes.

In The Bunker, Lindroth invented a series of characters affected by the events of September 11, 2001. The text is a conversation between a woman who lives in New York and her architect. She is trying to alleviate her anxiety about her interrupted life and turns to an architectural project as a way to engage in a process of reconciliation.

In The Bunker the client owns a piece of property that actually exists in coastal Rhode Island. The property in fact, belongs to a client of Newick’s, and has been the subject of some discussions regarding a possible future project.
