ICFF 2004 - New York City

Design Downtown
Alternative Show at the Chelsea Hotel

An outstanding collection of young designers, firms, vendors and schools showed at the Chelsea Hotel this year. The venue is very hit-or-miss. Some rooms were great (some with balconies!) but many were cramped and awkward. But many people made their way through the four floors and 30+ exhibitiors to see some of the most interesting items on display during the whole weekend.

Seven recent graduates from the Design Academy at Eindhoven were sent to New York with a mandate to create an installation from found objects. The results were striking; temporary, unnamed objects that illustrate what can happen when creative minds meet New York City trash.
