This month CORE features the work of Italian designer Roberto Zanon. We are including Roberto's work because we feel his example is one that many independent designers can follow. He fully understands the wired world we live in and takes advantage of it, displaying his work and seeking out new projects and contacts with people and companies far from his native Italy. Roberto first contacted us a few months ago with a request to list his firm, Y&Z Design Atrium, in our design firm database. We were happy to oblige. A few e-mails later Roberto had sent us rendered interior images featuring his work, and had detailed his interest in collaborating with other designers around the world to realize projects. Now he was talking our language. At CORE we believe designers worldwide can and should take advantage of new mediums such as the Web, multimedia and, for some, e-mail, to expand their personal networks, roles and influence. The more everyone learns about your work, and the work of others, the more enriched the design community becomes, and designing itself becomes a more enriching experience for those involved.
We hope that others learn from Roberto's enthusiasm and perserverance (he sent quite a few messages before we finally got this article together!). Today's designers need to be comfortable and proficient with traditional design methods and tools, and also aware and experienced with as many new tools as possible. To be able to render your work in an interior setting, convert that image into digital format, attach to an e-mail and send to a group on the other side of the ocean is something that every designer should be able to do. A lot of you already can, and most students now are exposed to this kind of interaction. At CORE we would like to see more of it from more people. If you are interested in any of the works in this article, contact Roberto via e-mail at rz@trivenet.it
