INTER!FACE, by Toon Van de Putte, is about exploration into innovative interface design, avoiding the defaults.
INTER!FACE is an experiment in investigating new ways of visualising information on a computer screen, in a way that is more organic than the current conventions. It explores new metaphors and new user interface elements, not from a dogmatic point of view but rather to show the unused potential of the computers we have today.
The INTER!FACE project consists of two major components: a text containing several case studies, interviews with designers from Fork (http://www.fork.de/) and Funny Garbage (www.funnygarbage.com ), and an analysis of literature on the subject. The other component is a web-based user interface for this textual information. Web-based, since this allows for maximum accessibility and doesn't limit the project to any hardware medium, like dvd or cd-rom. The interface was built in DHTML and Macromedia Flash, and is not intended for general access to the text, but more as an experimental prototype.

The actual INTER!FACE is found at http://www.katdesign.be/interface/html008/index.html
The whole project has a main website (http://www.katdesign.be/interface/), which served as a logbook throughout the project and contains all the designs, studies, summaries, and additional information about INTER!FACE.
Be forewarned, explorers: these sights are designed for viewing with netscape only.

Toon Van de Putte holds a Master's degree in graphic design from St. Lukas Brussels (http://www.sintlukas.be/). He has four years experience in website design. First as a freelance designer, since September 2000 as a designer for Valoris (http://www.amm.be/), a European Internet consultancy group.
He lives in Antwerp, Belgium, the country in which he was born in 1978.
Toon has gained extensive experience in designing graphical user interfaces for web and cd-rom projects, mainly using Flash and DHTML. Some of his recent projects include Verstraeten.net (http://www.verstraeten.net/), Kat Design (http://www.katdesign.be), Bliep.com (http://www.bliep.com) and an online demonstration of the electronic voting system for the city of Antwerp.
