You don't really need to read the following copy; just get to the site and start wandering around! But if you really need a preview, okay: It's hard to know exactly what you're looking at here, but this site by Maywa Denki, artist, features the NAKI series--a set of products, or prototypes? conceived as ways "to see the world from a fish's vision." More to the point, all are these machines, musical instruments, and gadgets have a fish motif, and all are downright fascinating.
An example: "Uke-TEL(NAKI-U1): When you call 177 using a telephone attached to the set, nails hanging from the ceiling fall into the water filled bowl along with the tone. In an unfortunate case, nails may hurt fish. Awarded the 1993 Art Artist Audition Grand Prize." Yep, the copy is equally beyond description, and many of the items have a sadistic edge (like the Grafish (NAKI-FX), where one paints ink on a living fish and lets it jump on a piece of paper "to achieve the record", or the the Sava-o (NAKI-SO), a ventriloquism puppet in a shape of a pistol). Of course, the leather, restraint-connoting straps don't help in this regard, but all the models seem beautifully-made and all, without exception, put one question into your head: is this art, or is it design?
