I had Macs for years due to graphic design reasons, and now, I will study 3D programs and I like to get a PC.
Can anyone recommend which PC, programs, memory and price that I can get?
I think I like to get it under $2000-system alone.
What about notebooks? Are they okay to work with 3D?
Thank U for your help..

I don't recommend building your own unless you are really into that kind of thing. If you have been using a mac for years I would wait till your next PC before you go that route.

I have always had very good luck with Dell desk top systems. Their support isn't as good as it used to be but still not bad. It will cost more than building your own but in the long run its the best way to start off.

I know may like Sony Vaio for lap tops. I am not a lap top user so I really can't say for sure. I know I am happy with the Sony display monitors for my desk top.

DON'T GET A GATEWAY! Its the gateway to hell. 95% of the people I know who have had them say they s*ck big time.

You can get a screaming system for $2,000 now days. Don't get the fastest CPU available, get the one that was top notch 3 month ago to get the most bang for the buck. Half a gig of RAM should be sufficient for most programs, but having more is always better. Don't worry about getting high-end CAD video card because it will not fit into your budget, and most game cards will do good now days.

I wouldn't recommand laptops because they are not cost effective, and you have a tight budget.

For ID related 3D work, all you need is Rhino, and it's around $800.
