Having said that, I'm looking at getting a hard drive based MP3 player this Xmas. Does anyone have any preferences/experience with these?

I love the ipod (and I'm not a mac guy at all), but it's damn pricey. For $288 (less than a 10 GB iPod) I can get a 40GB Creative Nomad Zen Xtra which has better sound quality, or a pretty cool 20GB Rio Karma, which you can throw on a network.
